There’s A Cat In The Dryer!

Nope! It’s not a cat in the hat. But there sure is a “Dizzy” cat in the dryer!

Dizzy fancies “helping” me do household chores. This fun moment happened yesterday after a load of clothes. The dryer was freshly warmed up and she was not wanting to part with her new space just yet.

Each time I reached for the clothes that were occupying the dryer, it became an ever so entertaining game of, “MINES! MINES! You can’t haz it mama!” (sigh)

Time for a nap ♥

Bill (cat daddy) and I have to be extra careful to keep an eye out for her, since she is so fond of climbing in our clothes dryer every chance she gets. Typically she will come out when it’s time to fold. Folding clothes is another chore she excels at – at least unfolding & scattering them are!

A Moment of Seriousness

There are many precious felines accidentally killed with dryer incidents. Cats do love the warmth from a clothes dryer and will climb in while you don’t notice. Once the dryer is running, it would be unlikely you’d hear them yowling for help.

I wanted to use this post as an awareness of this issue. Please be careful to keep an eye out for your kitty. There are some precautions you can take to prevent a tragedy from happening unknowingly in your home.

It’s important you check inside the drum to look for any signs of your kiddo. Bang on top of the dryer with your hands to spook anyone who might be inside the dryer. Do whatever you need to do to ensure everyone is safe and sound.

I don’t want to see the heartache of such a terrible accident visiting you or your cat(s).

Prevention Is Best

Always keep the doors to appliances closed (washer, dryer, refrigerator, freezer).

Keep the door to your laundry room closed.

Place sticky notes on your appliances to remind you to check first for kitty’s presence.

Once you’ve loaded your washer or dryer (and before you turn it on), check the inside with a sweep of your hand.

If you hear any noise or strange sound coming from your washer or dryer, investigate immediately.

  1. With all the kitties in our household, we make sure to never leave the dryer door open or leave clothes in the dryer with the dryer door open. If we can’t put clothes away immediately, we leave them in a hamper, where the kitties usually “pre-cat” the clothes for us. They love to lie and play in a hamper full of clothes. The kitties especially like “helping” fold the laundry — well more like unfold the laundry as we fold it.

    1. Your last sentence sounds oh so familiar Timothy! There’s just something so irresistible to them about a basket full of clean clothes (never dirty) hah. Glad to hear you guys are staying safe over there. : )

      Thanks for your comment!

  2. My kitties loved the warm dryer too. I was always so careful to make sure they were not in the dryer when it was time to put wet laundry in the dryer. Great advice.

Have a fabulous day, Holly. Scritches to the kitties. ♥

    1. It’s cute how kitties can find every source of warmth known to mankind, isn’t it?

Thank you Sandee ♥ Hoping your day is wonderful too. Sending lots of love your way.

  3. Oh, so cute! Great advice for keeping them safe, too.
Our washer and dryer are out in the garage where our cat doesn’t go, but she sure loves when I pile the warm clothes on the bed with her. She loves to ‘help’ fold them up. haha! 🙂

    1. Great peace of mind for you to have the laundry appliances in an area she can’t go, huh? It’s amazing how fast they can be! And with such stealth…

They are warmth-loving creatures, aren’t they? It’s amazing the lengths they’ll go to in order to get some heat! 🙂 I can see in my mind’s eye your baby girl helping you fold right now. Haha, fun times I bet…

Great to hear from you. ♥

  4. The dryer must indeed be a comfy place for them to feel comfortable. Sad to know that such accidents happen in the dryer. It’s good to spread awareness about such mishaps. The pictures are so adorable.

    1. They sure do find the darndest of places to be comfortable, don’t they? 🙂 It is definitely tragic to lose a beloved pet in this kind of accident. I can’t imagine the grief of accidentally harming your cat. My heart goes out to anyone who has lived through this!

So glad you enjoyed the pictures. Dizzy is quite the character! Grateful for you coming by & leaving your thoughts. Have a beautiful day! ♥

  5. Dizzy looks so happy in the dryer. Your advice on checking for a cat in the dryer is a good one. It would be sad to have an accident. Dizzy is gorgeous (Midnight, my cat, wants to meet her. He says black cats are great.)

    1. Haha, aww, Diz would love to meet Midnight too. 😊 It’d be like looking in the mirror! So cute. She is blushing at your compliment! ❤️ Black cats are definitely special. Their personalities are hilarious!

Great to hear from you friend!

    1. Just like living in a tropical climate, if only for a brief moment 🙂 Good plan you’ve got there, keeping kitty out of the wash room!

Thanks for coming by and replying. Always good to hear from you!
